BLOG 2: GRACE…

So, I did a search of them internets and it came up with the following definition of the word “grace”, more specifically giving yourself grace: Responding to your mistakes, limitations and heavy moments with kindness, patience and understanding instead of harsh self-judgement. The first few weeks after I got let go, there was a lot of harsh self-judgement. Could I have done better? What could I have done to not get fired? What the hell do I do NOW? And it took me awhile to answer those questions to myself. The answer is nothing…there is nothing I could have done better to prevent what happened. As with any company, when it’s your time, it’s your time. They have their reasons and once that decision is made by people above you, there is nothing you can do…what’s done is done. And that is what you have to reconcile. The self-doubt, the “beating yourself up”…the stuff that happened to me was out of my control. I can beat myself up, I can panic, I can get in my head…OR…I can come to the understanding that I can’t control the past. It’s done. I HAVE to look forward. I have to allow myself time to heal up mentally, the kindness to understand the situation and the patience to know that I have a lot to offer a potential employer. Sure, self doubt climbs in every now and then, but that’s OK, that’s a part of this. I have to allow myself grace. I’m confident that we will be OK. My wife has been super supportive and understanding and is giving me everything your partner should…all the grace I need.
